Tonight, the Council Will Debut North Hampton Park’s New Rec Center

This evening, the Dallas City Council’s holding a Special Community meeting at the YMCA at 3737 Goldman Street, off N. Hampton Road. And though there are a few pieces of business to attend to, mostly the approval of streetscape improvements on Commerce Street/Fort Worth Avenue, the council will also make two presentations to folks who show up.
This is probably the more interesting item: “What the Trinity River Corridor Project Means for the West Side of Dallas,” an 81-page document summarizing all the promised projects up and down the Trinity, including every last lake, recreational and, yup, solar-powered water taxi. But the council will also debut plans for the new Mattie Nash Myrtle Davis Recreation Center in North Hampton Park, which is scheduled to begin construction in February with April 2010 as the guesstimated finish date. The city, in fact, began advertising for bids on the project today. –Robert Wilonsky
Eagles’ McNabb: I’m not ashamed
Posted by ESPN.com’s Matt Mosley
Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb spent part of his Wednesday news conference defending the fact that he didn’t know the regular season overtime rules. It sounded like he was emboldened by the fact that other players (Hines Ward and Ben Roethlisberger) have rushed to his aid:
“It doesn’t make me feel bad at all,” McNabb said. “I was truly being honest. The thing about it is that now other people are starting to say that they didn’t know it either. Am I wrong for that? No. Should I have known that rule? There are a lot of rules that coaches, officials, players, they don’t know. Any time an official goes out on the field and then you see [NFL vice president of officiating] Mike Pereira trying to correct that mistake, that shows that officials don’t even know everything in the rule book. [Neither do] coaches [or] players. What people may say about me, it doesn’t bother me. As you can see, every time something happens that I have been a part of, more and more things have come out and people begin to sit back and say, ‘Oh, maybe he was right.’ Should I have know that rule? Yes. But, there are a lot of rules in that rulebook that a lot of us don’t know, and we ask questions.”
Lake Highlands: Will Smith, Tony Romo’s visit to LHHS was ‘all about the kids’
No doubt the halls of Lake Highlands High School were still buzzing today after a surprise visit by Will Smith and Dallas Cowboy Tony Romo yesterday afternoon during the school pep rally. The Wildcats were already excited about the football team getting ready to head to the playoffs and the Lady Cats volleyball team to the state semi-finals, so you can imagine the OMG!!! texts that probably ensued. Carol Toler was lucky enough to be among to the rowdy crowd. Here’s what she observed.
Got a photo, story, video to share from the event? Post away on neighborsgo.com.

Dallas Blog Article
These recommendations by Dallas Nightlife represent convivial nightspots for upscale (or at least poseur-upscale) Dallas Entertainment, particularly those in their 30s and 40s who are out and about but allergic to grunge and Dallas Nightlife excess. In general, these Dallas Nightlife are easy to get to and easy to park at. They offer good %linnk% (people-watching is a pre-eminent value), good sounds (extra points for droning, throbbing techno weirdness) and good Dallas Entertainment (the rooms, the drinks, the food).
